Martin High School Hockey/Ringette Academy is an exciting program designed to challenge all participants, both male and female, on the ice, fitness facility and in the classroom. We aim to enhance an athlete’s level of play, understanding of the game, enhance athleticism and to prepare each athlete for life- long involvement in sport.
Program Overview
Athletes continue to develop their skills in a structured environment with highly experienced and qualified teachers and instructors through skill development and sport specific fitness training built into their school day. Our team of guest coaches and professional instruction provide power-skating, position specific training and goal-tending skill development. Our students are also provided with indoor opportunities to improve their stick handling, quick release and accuracy shooting and overall puck/ring skills.
Our Hockey Academy program does not overlap with their U13, U15, U16, U18 & junior club teams, but rather complement their overall player development. In addition, we will continue to provide our athletes with educational opportunities for growth and exposure with a variety of potential travel experiences to other Academies and programs.
U18 AAA / Junior A / Western Hockey League
The Martin Academy will continue to support our U18 AAA, Junior A & Western Hockey League students. We provide sport specific fitness training, flexible academic support, on-ice skill & power-skating instruction and indoor puck skills development. This model is designed to enhance, complement, and support athletes during their respective seasons in full cooperation with their club teams and coaching staffs. For students who play hockey outside of our city or province, we coordinate their academic classes and timetables to ensure a smooth return to Martin at the conclusion of their respective seasons.
The Martin Academy also offers a unique experience for our grade 11 & 12 students. In cooperation with the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, we offer Intro to Coach certification to our students built into our curriculum. These programs are a combination of theory and practice all conducted by our certified staff members.
Facilities
On-ice training takes place at the world-class Co-operators Centre housed in the REAL District. Our in-door shooting & hockey specific fitness program takes place at PEAK Performance. These proud supporters and community members make this innovative program through their partnership a reality.
Transportation
Regina Public School bussing is provided to our students during the day. Senior students, with parent/guardians & caregivers signed driver authorization forms, in many cases, may transport themselves to off-site venues.
Student Achievements
We are tremendously proud of all our students who have attended our program since its inception in the fall of 2013. Whether they are entering the workforce, attending a post-secondary or are fortunate enough to continue their respective hockey careers.
Over the past decade we have had many students go on to compete at various levels. From National Hockey League drafted students (Alex Kannock-Leipert, Jaydon Dureau, Matthew Perkins & Cole Sillinger) to minor and European pro leagues. Our Hockey Academy is also well represented throughout the Western Hockey League (WHL), USHL and Canadian Junior Hockey League (AJHL, BCHL, MJHL, SJHL, OJHL). Many of our female and male alumnus have also went on to continue their education as a student-athlete in various Canadian Universities (USPORT) or attend Colleges in the United States (NCAA).
