Premier

The Premier Performance Stream is designed for elite student-athletes who currently train for their sport during the school day.  In many cases, these athletes already compete at a provincial, national or international level in their chosen sport.

Program Overview

Students in the Premier Performance Stream are grouped based on their sport and training schedule to ensure we have the best fit for your child. Fitness development is built into the school day under the guidance of highly experienced and qualified educators. This includes fitness instruction, classroom learning opportunities and mentorship. Students progress through a four-year approach to physical education that enhances their sense of self and personal wellness. While many outcomes are met through the “lens” of fitness, our students still experience all the necessary outcomes of the physical education curriculum in our province. The Premier Performance Stream is designed to be a compliment to the programs offered in our province and support the students in becoming the best student-athletes they can.

Where possible, accommodation is provided by modifying a student’s timetable or assignment schedule to avoid conflict with their training or competition timelines. However, it may not be possible for all course requests to be met. Parents/families are responsible for the transportation to and from their chosen training facilities.

We welcome the opportunity for student-athletes to discuss their needs with us based on their chosen sport. A few examples may include: figure skating, swimming, diving, water polo, rowing and tennis. Sport specific training will be provided by the student-athlete’s current coach or provincial governing body.

The academy will provide a flexible academic schedule for each student in the Premier Performance Stream along with academic guidance and in-school fitness and cross-training activities from our nationally certified strength and conditioning instructor. This program is designed to complement the athlete’s overall development in collaboration with the coaches and governing bodies.

Paige McKenzie (Diving – Tulane University):

The Premier Academy prepared me for more than just a college weight room and pool, it taught me the meaning of hard work and appreciation for athletics and the people around me. I learned discipline and time management as well as setting goals for myself as an athlete and person. Without the experience and training I was fortunate to have at the Academy, the transition into the world of division one athletics would not have been so seamless. Martin equipped me with the tools I needed for growth and success and I still utilize those skills into my adult life as I pursue my academic and career dreams.

The Premier Academy made me feel like I found my people and home in a very influential period in my life. High school can be a difficult time for a lot of people, but I look back and appreciate everyone I met and the experiences I was given. It was a chaotic period in time.  The Academy gifted me the ability to balance all of my passions while still thriving in the classroom and pool. The sense of unity that the Premier Academy shared was a built-in support system as young adults reaching for the same goal.

Nya Kraus (Gymnastics – Lindenwood University & University of Nebraska):

The Premier Academy helped me prepare for Lindenwood, Nebraska and life by being able to communicate with my teachers and coaches, learning that having workouts outside of your sport can be VERY beneficial, and overall learning to be a good person. I also really loved how the Premier Academy understood your sport and designed your workouts to them.

By being in the Premier Academy, it helped enhance my high school experience by learning how to juggle both gymnastics and school, along with having supportive and helpful teachers that knew what it was like to be a student athlete in the Academy. It was also really fun to be in the Premier Academy. We didn’t just workout five days a week, we had a classroom day, and Fun Fridays!

Blaire McDowell (Waterpolo – Arizona State and Team Canada – Paris Olympics 2024)

The Academy prepared me for a future in water polo by getting me accustomed to an intertwined schedule of training, school and life. If I have to train hard in the middle of workday, I can easily switch my headspace and feel present in the new environment or pace of things. Some of my workouts with

High school was definitely never boring with the Premier Academy. It kept me both alert and accountable throughout my day. I think it was also nice to know kids in different grades too.
