Softball

The Softball Academy is a skills based program specialising in high performance training and skill development.  In addition, the program is designed to prepare each athlete for life long involvement in the sport.  Skill development sessions take place at Regina Minor Girls Softball Diamonds, Martin Academy's Indoor Training Facility and the AffinityPlex.  We also make the effort to visit many of Regina's training facilities to experience all the city has to offer.

Softball Academy 2024

Athlete development is built into the school day under the guidance of experienced and qualified sport and fitness instructors.  This experience provides students with opportunities to train or compete at a high level and experience the educational benefits of travel, cultural exposure and autonomous learning.

The Softball program is designed to be a complement to the programs offered in our province.  As a full year and four year high school program Martin Academy's Fastpitch program is the first of its kind in Western Canada. Program teachers and instructors are former National Team athletes and Advanced Coaching Diploma trained coaches.  Graduates of the program are student athletes who love the sport of softball are pursuing academic excellence and long term participation in sports, wellness and fitness.

Students are grouped based on grade level to ensure we meet curriculum outcomes.  Those who aspire to play college softball receive the necessary support from our Academy instructors.  We take pride in educating students and their families about college opportunities for their child.  Our alumni list of college athletes expands each year.  As students' progress through the program, the experiences on and off the field will develop young people committed to serving the sport community.

College Softball Players - 24

Brooke Betson "My favourite memory from my time with martin academy softball was when we traveled to Las Vegas for a showcase during my senior year. It was such a great opportunity to gain exposure in front of college coaches and compete against high level talent. Martin academy helped me develop a strong work ethic and time management skills, both of which were crucial for me as I transitioned into college as a student athlete. Largely because of the foundational skills that I built at Martin, I have continued to find success as a graduate student and look forward to carrying those skills into my career."

Hailey Huculak " My favourite memory from Martin Softball Academy has to be the Portage La Prairie High School Softball Tournament! Some could say that coming home with the hardware was the greatest part, but for me it was the memories made on the bus ride up and being with the team between games. In my grade twelve championship game, we came up with a little saying; “little things on three” then we would all come together to say “little things”, and those words have stuck with me even after all these years. No matter win or lose, we were always a team on and off the field. The softball academy helped me prepare for my future in many different ways. Being a student athlete, you learn how to juggle many things at once. This can be from education, travel, other sports, and even life in general. I also benefited from gaining the confidence to begin my coaching journey. Being able to give back to my local community (Storm Softball) gave me confidence in leadership, accountability, and communication. Martin Academy and Collegiate inspired me to be the best person I can be daily, and I can connect that to my job as a Registered Nurse. I am forever grateful for all the skills I learned over my four years at Martin! "
